Batik art has been very popular since ancient times. Indonesia and Sri Lanka are two countries that are still practicing this art. There are several different types of batik art that can be incorporated into the art of batik. Wax batik, Java batik and tie dye are the main techniques used. When the Indonesian Java batik art became world famous, Sri Lanka took a leading position in the wax batik art.However, today Sri Lanka has also come a long way in the art of Java batik. Indonesian Java batik has been sold in large quantities in western countries around the world. But Sri Lanka today is able to create the highest quality batik for tourists. This batik art can be cited as the main reason why tourists come to Sri Lanka.

  Java batik technique  Java batik technique is an another way of batik. It's a very colourful one of batik Industry. There are some main ingredients to create a java batik dress. First,you have to have some dyes. Mainly we use a dye "procion dye"  for java. At next batik artists mix that dye with same chemicals called sodium silicate, soda ash and salt. The dye mixture is painted on the fabric according to the desired pattern with the help of a brush. After painting the design the keep it to dry in the sun for about two days. After that finally they outline all the design and boil it  with boiling water to finish the fabric.
